Dr. Peeter Põldre takes the reins as new President of 
the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

December 2018 – Dr. Peeter Poldre, Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Toronto has assumed the president role with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Dr. Poldre’s one-year term as president, chair of the College Council (board) began on December 7, 2018.

For the past 30 years, Dr. Poldre has been a consultant-hematologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He served for eight years as Sunnybrook’s vice president, Medical Professional Practice, and for the last two years of that role, he was also the chief of staff at St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital. He has taught extensively, and was the inaugural vice president education and academy director at Sunnybrook.

Dr. Poldre joined the University of Toronto Faculty Of Medicine in 1984, after completing a two-year fellowship in Hematology at Tufts-New England Medical Centre, Boston. In 1998, Dr. Poldre earned a Doctorate in Education from the University of Toronto. His promotion to professor in 2005 was preceded in 2004 with the Teacher of the Year Award from the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Poldre has been a member of the CPSO Council since 2012 and has served on several College committees, including the Discipline Committee. As president, Dr. Poldre will chair the Executive Committee and the Council.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is the licensing and regulatory body governing the practice of medicine in Ontario.
