The Baltic Artists’ annual exhibition turned out to be a ‘lights out’ affair!

Every fall this event brings out the best Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian artists in Montreal. This year’s exhibition was held at the Viva Vida studio in Pointe Claire Village, as part of Les Journées de la Culture.
The show opened at 6 p.m., and moments after the doors opened a power failure plunged art, artists, and visitors into the dark. While nice for an evening walk, darkness is hardly appropriate for an art show, and organizers were forced to scramble for candles. Fortunately the lights came on before the first candle was lit, and the evening proceeded in a more traditional manner.

The event was particularly well attended this year. The pleasant weather was conducive to a significant walk-in crowd, which included charming two year old Sofia Normandin, a budding art enthusiast. In her opening remarks, President Ann Kallaste-Kruzelecky welcomed the attendees, and invited everyone to raise a glass for the three Baltic States as well as for the success of the exhibition. She also acknowledged the sad loss of three of our members this year: Martins Stauvers, Veneranda Kreipans Wilson and Meeme Sultson.

The Baltic Artists’ Association wishes to thank the following sponsors of our annual exhibition: The Montreal Lithuanian Credit Union, Estonian Foundation of Canada, Latvian National Federation in Canada and Lithuanian Canadian Foundation. We are extremely grateful for their support.
