Developments in DNA genotyping and sequencing technologies have made it possible to map the genetic diversity of our (and other) species to an unprecedented scale. This has powered the field of population genetics and research into the role of genetic variation in disease. I shall give a short overview of research done at the University of Tartu in both of these directions.
Firstly, I will show how incorporating ancient DNA analyses have dramatically changed our understanding of the population history in Europe and in Northeast Europe in particular. Secondly, I will introduce the Estonian Biobank and describe how by using this resource Estonia is making the first steps toward genomics guided healthcare at the national scale.
CANSSI Ontario STAGE is a training program in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics, housed at the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and funded by CANSSI Ontario@U of T, an extra-departmental unit in the Faculty of Arts and Science that is home to the Ontario Regional Centre of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute. Seminars are sponsored by The Hospital for Sick Children; the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital; the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research; the McLaughlin Centre of the University of Toronto; and the Ontario Cancer Institute of the University Health Network.
